Do you want to make your own homemade mirror? Do you think a mirror can only be bought? Do you want to learn how to make something different? You want to know how to make a mirror? We'll take you through the step-by-step procedure below.
Materials and step by step
To make a mirror, we'll need a clear, shiny glass. The size of the glass is what the mirror will be, so you can choose the one that best suits your needs.
Once you have chosen the glass for your mirror, the first thing to do is to degrease it very well. To do this, use hot water with a detergent. The detergent can be, for example, the typical dishwasher that you use at home to wash the dishes. It is important that you wash both sides of the glass a couple of times. When you rinse it, let it drain and use a cellulose paper or kitchen towel and dry the whole surface, making sure it is completely dry and without stains. The next thing you should do is cover the face of the glass that you are not going to paint with paper and masking tape. It is important that you know that to make a mirror, the face you do not paint will be the main face to look at once it is finished.
How to make a mirror: painting for reflection
Once we have the glass ready, to make a mirror it is important to prepare the product with which we will paint the face that we have left uncovered, which will be the back of our future mirror.
To do this, we will use the Silver Mirror from Lecker's. This is a painting prepared and ready to be used to make a mirror. Ideally, it should be placed in the spray gun tank and applied to the glass. It is important that the air pressure is between 3.5-4 Bars.
Apply a thin, even layer to all the glass and allow to dry for 5 to 10 minutes. Then apply a second thin and uniform layer. At this point it is important to check that the glass is sufficiently covered. In this case, you could say that the steps on "how to make a mirror" are finished. Otherwise, you would apply a third thin layer.
Once this mirror effect is achieved, this silver part must be protected. To do this, we will apply a couple of coats of Primacric 60 Lecker's. this will increase the durability of our mirror and keep it protected. Our Primacric 60 is a two-component enamel with very good adhesion to glass and ceramics. To apply it, you must mix component A with component B, and apply a first coat to cover. Let it dry for 30 minutes and apply a second coat. At this point you must wait 12 hours for it to harden enough to handle the glass without staining or smearing. Then you can uncover the face we protected with paper and masking tape.
And we already have a magnificent mirror of our own making.
